Disaster Movie

watch new hot trailer

The filmmaking team behind the hits "Scary Movie," "Date Movie," "Epic Movie" and "Meet The Spartans" this time puts its unique, inimitable stamp on one of the biggest and most bloated movie genres of all time -- the disaster film. DISASTER MOVIE follows the comic misadventures of a group of ridiculously attractive twenty-somethings during one fateful night as they try to make their way to safety while every known natural disaster and catastrophic event -- asteroids, twisters, earthquakes, the works -- hits the city and their path as they try to solve a series of mysteries to end the rampant…

The Dark Knight

sets box office record

Holy box-office, Batman! When the Joker's on the loose, your city needs saving, and the fate of the world hangs in the balance, there's only one superhero you need call. He'll fight the Penguin, Two-Face or Catwoman — oversized villains in need of oversized justice. So who would have guessed that Batman would still have the time to take care of some low-level drug pushers?

The Mummy III

undead again

Back in 1999, the world found a suitable stopgap for the decade-long absence of the Indiana Jones series in The Mummy, a spirited popcorn film that captured some of the period-adventure magic that the Indy trilogy had banked on for nine years. Two years, later, The Mummy Returns saturated the formula with computer effects and hyperactive action, but it still managed to become a huge hit. Now, with The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor, the series returns -- ironically in the same summer that witnessed Indiana Jones' revival, making the new Mummy movie's inadequacy all the more evident.

Get Smart

#1 debut at B.O.

Inspired by the classic television show of the same name, "Get Smart" scored big this weekend, easily beating all challengers to come in at #1 at the domestic box office. How good did it do? Would you believe that it made a million dollars for every year it's been off the air? Missed it by that much.

No need to send down the Cone of Silence; with $39.2 million, the revamp exceeded expectations on its way to becoming the biggest live-action opening in Steve Carell's career. (And for the record, "Get Smart" last aired 38 years ago.)

Mamma Mia!

expectations ...

Universal's "Mamma Mia!" came out singing overseas ahead of its domestic launch, dominating in English-speaking markets with $24 million on just 1,368 screens in a dozen territories for a stunning $17,536 per-location average.

The tuner, along with Sony's "Hancock," "Kung Fu Panda" and the Asian-territories debut of John Woo's "Red Cliff," set a torrid pace for a sizzling international box office frame. The four films combined for nearly $160 million, underscoring the resurgence of offshore biz after the Euro Cup soccer tourney held down moviegoing in June.

Clone Wars - TV Series

Saturday, 06 September 2008

article thumbnailThe first Star Wars film to see theatres in a little over 3 years was really just a big publicity stunt to draw attention to the proposed animated series on Cartoon Network. ImageEven most die hard Star Wars Apologists (of which I am one) admit to one degree or another that the latest set of Star Wars movies (The Phantom Menace, Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith) were a mild disappointment at best and a complete raping of our childhoods at worst. The name Jar Jar Binks will go down in cinematic history as perhaps the most hated and despised character ever to hit the silver screen and George Lucas saw his almost religious like following of worshipers who saw him as a cinematic deity lose their faith almost overnight.

So now comes an animated feature called “Star Wars: Clone Wars” that takes place between episodes 2 and 3, directed by someone else and once again raising our hopes that perhaps a good Star Wars movie could exist again… or making us brace ourselves for the raping of our fond memories yet again. So did Star Wars: Clone Wars continue to defile our childhood memories and the original trilogy as Jar Jar did? You know what… it actually didn’t.
